Classic Design

Mon 06 2010

A heavier styled vanity complements classic marble to add masculinity to the space, while still allowing frequent overnight guests to feel welcome and comfortable in this sleek full bath. Matte black glass lines accent the dove gray veining in the marble floor, shower, and wainscot. Will surely remain timeless in its elegance and styl. Leslie Lamarre

Rounded shapes in the mirror and a thick floating countertop, coupled with a three-layered effect on the wall, provide ample focal points to an artfully pleasing space. Porcelain tile, glass mosaic, and a round backlit mirror create a stunning textured effect on the primary wall. Shimmering hues of steel gray, tan, and taupe offer complementing blends and contrasts in a powder room that aptly conveys the definition of art in design. Erica Westeroth

A captivating space was created through the selection of unique materials and the incorporation of innovative technology that allows many of this powder room’s functional elements to be concealed. A wall-hung faucet mounted in the mirror adds to the room’s illusions, along with the sliding doors with no visible track to conceal the necessary storage for supplies. Recycled glass mosaic tiles, aged copper metallic colored porcelain floor tiles, and satin nickel finishes create the perfect balance of sophistication in color. Adel Visser

Warm colored marble, natural granite tones, a maple vanity, and an open airy shower and drying area are at the heart of the well-composed welcoming space of this in-home luxury spa. With towels and shampoo close at hand and a bench outside the shower that provides a convenient spot to towel off, the client is sure to feel pampered in the new bathroom. John Sylvestre

Samurai Spirit

Soft silver wallpaper from Japan is used to contrast the polished black pebbles that are stacked to create a shimmering backsplash. Kimono-shaped mirrors and a dramatic 42-inch faucet, which imitates the outline of a samurai sword, further support the culturally-defined environment. The path of the water over a shimmering rock backdrop alludes to a waterfall flowing into a hollowed piece of black granite.  Elina Katsioula-Beall

This kitchen’s  is an island consisting of three parts: blue cabinets housing the sink, dishwasher and trash compactor, a smaller black section housing a microwave drawer, and a turned red post with a 3-inch-thick round maple top. White perimeter cabinets and oak flooring add a classic touch to balance the bright colors and rounded shapes. Ines Hanl

This kitchen features a breakfast nook as well as an island with swiveling stools that facilitate both TV watching and talking with the chef. Wide traffic paths and open areas around the large island make room for family gatherings. Ada Pagano

Alderwood Warmth

Thu 06 2010

It features high heat gas and electric cooking, along with a prep sink. The kitchen features alder veneer cabinetry and wood flooring, accented by nine feet of stainless refrigerators, ovens, and a farm sink. Polished granite counters, a custom-designed glass bar and dining table, and glass tile backsplashes highlighted by low fixtures add spots of high-sheen surface throughout the room. Wendy F

This kitchen was designed to exist in a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home. Stone, glass, iron and wood were the materials selected by the designer to accomplish the stunning result. A free-styled patterned glass in the stone and beam cooking area was backlit to allude to the appearance of water, and contribute a feeling of serenity. Thomas David Trzcinski

This contemporary kitchen shines, but comfortable, as cooking, dining and entertaining space was maximized indoors and out. Black granite countertops are balanced in warmth by crosscut bamboo butcher-block countertops. The range hood with a hidden baffle inset possesses a sculptural quality that gives the appearance of art rather than function. Jennifer L
