Layered countertops were used in the design, granite at the kitchen counter height, and soapstone on the raised counter butted the mahogany which was slightly higher.

The goals for this project included designing and building a functional, yet striking showplace with a nook seating area where the chef could interact with the guests, while not having them “in the way.”

The designers renovated and extended the house to the rear, recreating a slightly extended mudroom. The link to the garden is established by a high indoor-outdoor space along the north end of the kitchen with skylights at close intervals along the roof of the extension.

The kitchen offers simplicity, functionality, practicability – and, above all, glamour, highlighting the fact that kitchens are for so much more than cooking.
