This housing construction system is extremely fast, ultra-low maintenance and competitively priced but also provides high thermal performance and low environmental impact for a price similar to a very basic home. This addresses community concern regarding environmental impact and housing affordability while providing a form of architecture that appeals to the more discerning consumer. The system uses prefabricated sandwich panels as the main structure for floors, walls and the roof. Little waste is generated on site during construction and what is left over is predominantly steel waste that can be recycled. The judges said that ‘it is cost-effective, fast to assemble and extremely low maintenance’. Chapman Constructions, ACT/SNSW
